Florence Marathon 2010, the Expo opens on Friday

Translation by Ilaria Lanzoni

The Florence Marathon 2010 and its related events are coming up. Among these, one of the most important and eagerly awaited events, attracting a high number of visitors every year, is the Florence Marathon Expo. The Expo is a benchmark for the marathon and a meeting point for companies and visitors, including tourists, sports lovers and athletes participating in the 27th edition of the Florence Marathon.

In addition to hosting the sports exposition, the Expo will be a logistically important place because it will host the reception place for the runners, where running vest and race packs will be distributed. The Expo, which will take place inside the Luigi Ridolfi Athletics Stadium, will be open to the public on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November.

On Saturday, the Expo will host a meeting on several interesting subjects, ranging from technology to science and marketing, where many experts in the field will be invited to share their views.

The Florence Marathon Expo is located in the Campo di Marte area, not far from the Artemio Franchi football stadium. In addition to hosting stalls and expositions, it will be a meeting place for sports people, runners and experts.

Four days before the event, expectations are high and everything is ready for the Florence Marathon 2010.

Italian and international media will cover the event, which will be broadcast live on RAI channels. Live broadcast on RAI Sport will start at 9.10 a.m., when the ten women runners with times below 2:30′ will start their race; they will be followed by 41 disabled runners – including former F1 pilot Alex Zanardi, who came sixth in the New York Marathon. The men will start at 9.18 and will be led by seven or eight African top runners, who will try to beat the record set in 2006 by James Kutto (2:08’40”). Athletes will compete for a €40,000 prize that consists in prize money and bonuses. The President of the first edition of the Florence Marathon Giancarlo Romiti explained that the prize money was increased significantly in order to attract more professional runners and to make the race more spectacular. Special guests attending this event will include Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi, Deputy General Director of RAI Gianfranco Comanducci and former professional cyclist Davide Cassani.

At Running Passion, we will cover this race closely to keep you updated on its developments and to offer you the photos of the event. See you at the 27th edition of the Florence Marathon on Sunday 28 November!
